Designed for anyone who prepares or signs a Form 990-PF, Exponent Philanthropy’s signature seminar will give you a thorough understanding of the 990-PF, the 5% payout requirement, and expenditure responsibility. Taught by top accountants, the seminar examines the form line-by-line and helps you identify common mistakes, keep your information secure, and keep your trustees out of trouble. You will:
- Review a sample Form 990-PF line-by-line with private foundation tax experts to gain a thorough understanding of the form
- Have the opportunity to review your foundation’s form and ask targeted questions that affect your foundation
- Receive tips for your foundation to make your Form 990-PF more secure and keep trustees out of trouble with the IRS
- Identify mistakes on your foundation’s form and know what to do to fix them
Who should attend?
This seminar is designed for anyone who prepares, reviews, or signs a private foundation’s Form 990-PF, including accountants who work with private foundations.
No advanced preparation is needed for the seminar, and there are no programmatic prerequisites for attendance. The seminar will address your questions, whether you are new to the Form 990-PF or experienced and need a refresher.
Location and Hotel Accommodations
The seminar will be held at the Hilton Columbus Downtown, 402 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43215. We have a limited room block at the hotel. Please book your room as soon as possible, as we expect the block to sell out.
Note: this seminar will take place as a preconference program to our 2025 Annual Conference.

Cancellation and Other Policies
Substitutions are accepted at any time. Cancellations on or before October 14, 2025, are subject to a $75 processing fee. Cancellations received between October 15 and October 31, 2025 will receive a 50% refund minus the $75 processing fee. Cancellations on or after November 1, 2025, are non-refundable.
Accessibility
The seminar will take place in a conference room of the hotel, which is accessible via elevator. Seminar speakers will use microphones for amplification. Seminar handouts will be available in electronic and hard copy versions. We will provide additional accommodations upon request (e.g. ASL interpreter). Presenter Information
Brian Yacker is a tax principal in Baker Tilly’s Orange County, California, office, specializing in not-for-profit organizations. He has more than 20 years of experience providing tax, legal, and accounting services and solutions to all types of not-for-profit organizations. Brian’s experience spans many sectors, including public charities and private foundations. He is an adjunct professor at UC Irvine, and he developed the AICPA’s Form 990 course for dissemination to state societies throughout the United States.
Wendy Campos has been in public accounting since 2000 and focuses primarily on tax-exempt organizations, including foundations (both private and public), higher education institutions, hospitals, credit unions, trade associations, and other not-for-profit organizations. Wendy leads the firm’s foundations practice and the PNW tax-exempt practice.
Karen Gries, director in the exempt tax advisory group with Baker Tilly, has been active in many aspects of the tax-exempt sector for more than 25 years. Karen has spent her career advising tax-exempt organizations with issues such as organizational structure, unrelated business income, alternative investments, and other tax-related complexities. Her experience has spanned a wide variety of organizations in the tax-exempt sector, including colleges and universities, private foundations, independent schools, and other charitable organizations.
Continuing Education Information
Exponent Philanthropy is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through its website: www.nasbaregistry.org.
The delivery method for this program is Group Live. Participants who attend the seminar in its entirety are eligible to receive 6.5 CPE credits or hours of instruction in the area of Taxes. Per the standards of the National Registry of CPE Sponsors, CPE credits are granted based on a 50-minute hour.
