Many private foundations receive grant requests from groups that are under the fiscal sponsorship of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Indeed, fiscal sponsors have experienced significant growth in the past decade in size and scope of activities and projects sponsored. The National Network of Fiscal Sponsors currently lists 256 fiscal sponsors and over 13,000 projects sponsored.
Some private foundations consider serving as a fiscal sponsor themselves.
