Foundation Management and Operations Survey - Exponent Philanthropy

Foundation Management and Operations Survey

One of our most valued member resources, the Foundation Operations and Management Report is the result of this yearly survey of our members. Your responses allow you and your fellow members to benchmark your practices of governance, grantmaking, investments, staff salaries and benefits with other members and help Exponent Philanthropy better understand our members’ needs as we develop new programs and materials for you.

Please complete this survey by June 21. In doing so, you will help your own organization, your fellow members, and enlighten the philanthropy community to valuable data and information.

This survey asks for information about your foundation’s most recently completed fiscal year. To efficiently enter that information, please have the following on hand when you complete the survey:

  • The foundation’s grant data (i.e., number, type and amount of grants awarded)
  • If the foundation has paid employees, employee salary and benefits expense information from the most recent fiscal year
  • If the foundation compensates board members, board compensation information from the most recent fiscal year
  • If the foundation has consultants (e.g., accounting firm, lawyer, etc.), amounts paid to consultants from the most recent fiscal year
  • The foundation’s investment rate of return and asset allocation from the most recent fiscal year
  • If the foundation files a 990-PF or 990, the most recent tax return (If not yet available, you may use a previous year’s 990-PF or 990.)
