What is it?
Member Chats is a platform where Exponent Philanthropy members can connect for a 30-minute one-on-one conversation and peer learning.
How does it work?
- Complete your profile so we can start curating matches.
- Look out for an email to sign up for a chat. Member Chats are offered monthly with 12:00 pm or 3:00 pm ET time slots.
- You’ll receive an email introducing your match with a link to join.
How much time will it take?
Completing your profile should take about 5 minutes. While we are in our pilot phase, Member Chats will be held monthly. Look out for a separate email to sign up for a chat. Chats last 30 minutes, and we encourage you to exchange contact information with your match and stay connected.
How can I connect with my match?
You’ll receive an intro email with their details. You can also connect via the Member Directory or email us at membership@exponentphilanthropy.org.
What are the system requirements?
A stable Wi-Fi connection, webcam, and microphone. Works best on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
How can I make sure I receive emails and notifications from Exponent Philanthropy?
To ensure you receive event invitations, updates, and Member Chats notifications, add Exponent Philanthropy (info@exponentphilanthropy.org) and Hive Chats (hive-chat@communityhives.com) as a safe sender in your email system.
- Outlook users: Add Exponent Philanthropy to your Safe Senders list.

If you’re still having trouble receiving emails, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for assistance.
What should I talk about during a discussion or networking session?
Not sure where to start? Here are a few conversation prompts to help break the ice and spark meaningful connections:
- Introduce yourself (name, title, organization, location, and a little about your foundation or philanthropic work).
- What project, initiative, or area of work are you most excited about right now?
- What challenge are you currently navigating?
- What drew you to philanthropy and/or Exponent Philanthropy?
- What is one thing you’ve learned recently that might be useful to others?
- What kind of connection, resource, or conversation would be most helpful to you right now?
- What is something you wish more people understood about your work or role?
- What are you currently trying to build, improve, or rethink?
- Is there a trend or issue you’re paying close attention to?
- Is there a question you’d love to get peer perspectives on?
These prompts are simply conversation starters—feel free to share whatever is most relevant and valuable to you.
What happens if I can’t make my time slot?
Let us know as soon as possible so we can rematch your peer. We also encourage you to reconnect directly.
