The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” just passed the House and is now in the Senate. While there were some advocacy wins, such as protecting nonprofit status and removing new taxes on names and logos, there are still serious concerns for foundations and charitable giving.
If passed as is, the bill would:
- Raise excise taxes on larger private foundations, diverting funds from communities.
- Limit corporate charitable deductions, which could reduce business giving.
- Keep a modest charitable deduction for non-itemizers (but only temporarily).
The Senate now takes up the bill with the power to amend or improve it. Now is a critical moment for funders to speak out.
